Resource Tapping
Resource tapping is a gentle self-regulation practice that can help settle the nervous system and strengthen your sense of safety, steadiness, and support.
By using soft, alternating taps on the left and right sides of the body, you may begin to feel more grounded, calm, and connected to your inner resources.
This practice can be used at any time, especially during moments of stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.
How It Can Help
- Supports nervous system regulation
- Encourages a sense of grounding and safety
- Can reduce feelings of anxiety or activation
- Helps strengthen supportive or calming inner experiences
Simple Ways to Tap
- The tapping does not need to be strong or visible to others.
- You might gently tap your thumb and forefinger together on one hand and then the other.
- If you are driving, you might softly tap one side of the steering wheel and then the other.
Pairing Tapping with a Resource
Resource tapping often works best when paired with a calming image, memory, or felt sense of support. You might recall a peaceful place, a trusted person, a spiritual connection, or any experience that helps you feel safe and cared for.
How to Begin
- Bring a peaceful or supportive place to mind.
- Notice what you see, hear, smell, or feel in that place.
- When the image feels more present, begin slow alternating taps—left, then right—at a steady, gentle pace.
- Continue only as long as it feels supportive.
- If discomfort arises, pause and return your attention to the present moment.
- For many people, about 10 taps is enough.
When to Use It
- During moments of anxiety or emotional activation
- As a grounding practice during the day
- While settling after a stressful experience
- As part of an evening reflection to help your body and mind unwind
